Meghri, one of the gorgeous regions of Armenia,
is rich with delicious sun flavored fruits.
Meghri Cannery OJSC was established in 1930 as a producer of
jams, comfitures, preserves, fruit butters, juices, compotes,
syrups, and dried fruits. The company is located 377. 5 km
from Yerevan and 0. 5 km to the Northeast of the center of
Meghri City.

The production facility consists of fruit
selection, processing, canning, packaging, and
labeling departments and a warehouse.

Privatized
in 1996, the cannery continues to process peaches, cornelian
cherries, rose hips, pomegranates, figs, quinces, apricots,
pumpkins, walnuts, and raspberries. Fruits and vegetables used
for production are grown only in Meghri Region and are
delivered to the cannery on a daily basis insuring freshness
of the raw material.

The
40 employees of the cannery assist the Director, Grisha
Grigoryan, to produce and market 18 varieties of jams,
preserves, and syrups by adapting traditional technologies of
fruit processing and canning to today’s requirements. Meghri
products are high quality and healthful: walnut preserve is
rich with iodine, fig regulates blood pressure, cornelian
cherry is useful for colds, quince is helpful for throat
inflammations, and pumpkin aids digestion problems.

Annual
production capacity is 1 million jars of
preserves and 3 million jars of fruit
butters and jams. Actual production varies between 250 and 300
thousand jars.
